PUPIL PREMIUM EXPENDITURE

The pupil premium grant is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England. It’s a school-level grant that gives schools extra resources to help them meet challenges, including those arising from deprivation.

It’s allocated for schools to:

  • improve the academic outcomes of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities
  • close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers across the country

You can find further information about the pupil premium in Pupil Premium Frequently Asked Questions (PDF174KB8 pages

PE AND SPORTS PREMIUM

Schools use Sports Premium funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Education, Sport and physical activity that they offer.

Please find our latest evidence and impact report for our use of Sports Premium here.

CATCH UP PREMIUM EXPENDITURE

Children and young people across the country have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19).   The catch-up premium is funded on a per pupil basis at £80 per
pupil. This funding is based on the number of pupils in school.

The school has the job of deciding the best way to spend this money.  Before allocating this money, we used the Education Endowment Foundation support guide to investigate evidence-based approaches to catch up for all children.

As the catch-up premium has been designed to mitigate the effects of the unique disruption caused by coronavirus (COVID-19), the grant will only be available for the 2020 to 2021 academic year. It will not be added to schools’ baselines in calculating future years’ funding allocations.

You can see our overview here.
